The Lion King (2019) Summary

This movie begins with a breathtaking view of African savanna at sun rise. As the sun slowly rises above the horizon, its warm, bright light spreads across the vast land. Birds begin to soar through the air and elephants walk gracefully across the plains, giraffes move elegantly among the trees and countless animals gather from every corner of the land.

In the beginning, all the animals are seen moving towards the Pride rock, creating a sense of unity and harmony. It seems like they are gathering for any sort of ceremony. This stunning scene not only captures the beauty of nature, but also the strong connection among all living beings. They all were gathered there to celebrate the birth of little cub, SIMBA. The Lion King, the king of Pride Land, MUFASA announced that his little Simba would be the king after him. All animals were so happy because Mufasa was the most humble, caring and responsible leader, whose first priority was to serve his nation, his animals. All animals knew that Simba would be also brought up like his father.

All were present there, celebrating this beautiful event except the one, Scar, brother of Mufasa, uncle of Simba was not present there. He was selfish, dishonest, and deceitful who hates his brother Mufasa and little Simba intensely. He wanted to become a king, and this desire for kingship had driven him mad with greed. His aim was only to become a king, even if he had to followed a wicked path. His nature was totally opposite to his brother.

As one brother always thought of others before him while the other never thought of anyone but himself, a selfish one. Slowly, the king begins to teach his son so that he can take over the kingdom in the future. Standing on Pride Rock, he showed Simba the lands and says, ‘Simba, as far as the sunlight reaches, all of this will be yours one day.’ But he also warns him from one place, the dark gorge.

Simba asked surprisingly, ‘What is there, that I am not allowed to go?’ The king beautifully explained to his son, ‘Everyone thinks a king can take everything, but a true king always thinks about what he can give.’ Moreover, he teaches him that a good king is responsible from a running zebra to a crawling, tiny ant. But Simba was very young and too small to understand all these lessons.”

One day, Simba and his friend Nala went to play. They started exploring the Pride Lands. Curious and adventurous, they wander away from the safety of Pride Rock and heads towards the Dark gorge, the place Simba’s father, Mufasa had warned him never to go.

The gorge looks so dangerous with steep cliffs and shadows that make it feels scary and mysterious. As they were exploring, they accidently disturbed a herd of hyenas. Simba tried to be brave but the situation become so dangerous. Nala started shouting for help, realizing that the herd is too large and powerful for them to handle. But suddenly Mufasa arrived and saved both of them from those hungry wildebeests.

Later, he scolded Simba for this act. The next day, Scar went to the dark gorge with a powerful plan and invites hyenas to team-up with him. He tells them how they will kill Mufasa and his son and take over the Pride Lands. After hearing his plan, the hyenas agree to join Scar.

A few days later, Scar takes Simba to a desolate place, leaving him there alone. Suddenly, a herd of wildebeests were coming towards Simba. He tries to escape, but there are too many of them, and he gets dragged under their feet. Meanwhile, Scar goes to Mufasa and tells him that Simba is in danger, urging him to save his son. Mufasa rushes to rescue Simba and manages to save him, but while doing this, he gets injured. As he climbs up the cliff to save himself, he looks toward Scar who was standing at the edge of cliff, hoping Scar will help him and save his life but instead of helping his brother, he pushes him down. Mufasa falls in a wounded state and dies. Scar murdered his brother.

When Simba reaches his father, he finds him dead and becomes extremely upset. At that moment, Scar hypocritically appears and manipulates Simba, saying, ‘Your father died because of you. You are the one who killed him.’ Simba becomes so terrified. Scar then asks him to run far away so that no one can find you. After Scar convinces him that he is responsible for his father’s death, Simba overwhelmed with guilt and fear. Terrified and heartbroken, he runs away from the Pride Lands, leaving behind his home and the kingdom he is meant to inherit.

Timon and Pumbaa take Simba in and introduce him to their carefree lifestyle, teaching him the philosophy of “Hakuna Matata” means no worries. During this time, Simba grows up away from his responsibilities and the Pride Lands. He tries to forget the painful past and lives in a world of fun and freedom, enjoying life without fear or rules. However, deep down, the memories of his father and his kingdom still linger, waiting for the moment he will have to confront his past and fulfill his destiny.

Years later, Nala, Simba’s childhood friend escaped from Scar’s Land to callout someone for help. There she unexpectedly meet Simba. Nala reminds Simba of his responsibilities, telling him about the suffering under Scar’s tyranny. She urges him to face his past and take his rightful place as king.

Although, hesitant Simba begins to remember the lessons his father taught him about responsibility, courage, and leadership. Some days later, wise mandrill Rafiki finds Simba and helps him reconnect with his true identity. For guidance, Rafiki shows Simba a reflection of Mufasa in the sky, reminding him that his father’s spirit lives within him.
